ACTIVITIES
Our Activity Professionals are available seven days a week to meet the leisure needs of residents at The Chateau. This includes using activities to enhance the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of both long and short term residents. Some of the programs offered include exercise classes led by the Wellness staff, Tai-Chi classes, musical concerts, animal-assisted therapy, intergenerational gatherings, outings, and wheelchair biking.
For those who prefer independent leisure pursuits the Activity staff can provide reading material, word puzzles or playing cards. Residents may also choose to spend time on one of our two resident computers surfing the WEB or e-mailing friends and family. The computers are located on the first and second floor for resident convenience in the Banyan and Palm Activity Rooms.
Specialized activities programs have been designed for residents with memory and cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease and varying types of dementia. Monthly reminiscing themes are utilized to enhance memory by utilizing familiar and meaningful stimuli. This creative approach increases resident’s level of alertness, and provides tactile, olfactory, auditory and visual stimulation. In addition, thematic programming encourages social interaction, improves communication, decreases depression and reduces problematic behaviors.
We are dedicated to creating an environment that is safe, secure and promotes the self worth and dignity of our residents. The Cypress neighborhood has been specially designed to meet the needs of the cognitively impaired residents. The special environment reduces the individual’s level of anxiety and confusion with soothing colors and limited noise. Beautiful country kitchens as well as serene outdoor courtyards with fragrant gardens allow residents to enjoy a homelike atmosphere. The neighborhood is open, yet secured through the use of the Wanderguard system for those residents that may need protection from wandering behavior.
The recreational programs were designed with the collaboration of a geriatric recreational therapist. The interventions such as those mentioned above ensure that The Chateau is in compliance with federal and state regulations. They provide opportunities for stimulation or solace; promote physical, cognitive and/or emotional health; enhance each client’s physical and mental status; and promote residents self-respect by providing activities that support self-expression and choice. The goal of the program is to engage residents in meaningful programs and in doing so, provide opportunities for successful aging.
