WELLNESS

We believe the eight dimensions of wellness together makes each of us unique:

  • Physical

  • Social

  • Emotional

  • Intellectual

  • Spiritual

  • Vocational

  • Nutritional

  • Environmental

  • Residents and health providers are working collaboratively to create a Wellness program that meets individual health needs and achieve wholeness in each person.

Our integrative approach to wellness acknowledges the strengths and challenges of each resident’s lifestyle habits and provides encouragement to develop a strategy for living healthier.  Research supports the fact that healthy lifestyle choices play a crucial role in promoting wellbeing.  An active pursuit of these choices will lead to a path of successful aging.  Our goal is to support each resident in creating good habits that provide motivation and inspiration to allow healthy change to come naturally.

Take part in one of our water or land-based group fitness classes or enjoy the heated swimming pool and whirlpool spa on your own.  The Fitness Center offers state-of-the-art cardio and weight training equipment and our Certified Exercise Specialists will get you started with an individualized program designed to meet your fitness needs.

Gather with friends for a fun game of tennis on our Har-Tru clay tennis courts or perfect your golf game on our 18-hole putting green and the chip and putt short-range practice area. Group fitness classes promote socialization as many residents develop friendships while they enjoy the benefits of an ongoing exercise program.

Stimulate your brain by attending a session of Big Brain Academy using the Nintendo Wii or let your mind and body unwind while enjoying a relaxing massage.  Learn proper breathing techniques and increase your flexibility in a yoga class or try the mindful movement meditation class to enrich your soul.

Many other Wellness related programs are offered including Weight Watchers, Train Your Brain, Health Promotion for Mind, Body & Spirit and Animal Assisted Therapy.  Involvement in the wellness program offers residents opportunities to engage in life, which in turn optimizes health, and provides a sense of well-being.

Four Principles guide our decision-making in providing services and programs to assist in managing health and achieving wellness potential:

  • Focus on wellness, on the prevention of illness, on successful self-management of health behaviors and health conditions when they occur.

  • Bridge acute care and wellness services.

  • Integrate all facets of life to wellness:  physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, vocational, nutritional and environmental.

  • Apply a science-based health approach to treatment.   Scientific evidence provides the framework for healthy lifestyle decisions and/or recommendations.
