Neighborhood News: Moorings Park a Retirement Community that Feels Just like Home

November 01, 2009

HomeHealthMy wife, Bonnie, and I were first introduced to Naples around 1955, when her parents retired to a house they built on the corner of First Avenue North and First Street North. (Yes, Gulf Shore Boulevard was First Street in those days.)

My father loved to fish and my parents soon moved into a house in Aqualane Shores. Bonnie and I became residents of Naples in 1983 and moved to Moorings Park in February 2004.

Moorings Park is a Continuing Care Retirement Community with an 83-acre attractively landscaped campus located on the east side of Goodlette-Frank Road, just south of Pine Ridge Road. It is located minutes from all that Naples has to offer.

We are two of some 500 residents enjoying independent living in 13 separate buildings.

Our apartment at Moorings Park has the same square footage as the house we formerly owned in Naples. Every independent living unit enjoys a view over one of the lakes on the campus, and most overlook the golf course at the Country Club of Naples as well.

Life at Moorings Park is not like living in a hotel.

As part of Continuing Life Care, Moorings Park has 74 Assisted Care apartments at Orchid Terrace. The Chateau is a skilled nursing care facility, with a full range of therapies available. Many Moorings Park residents were first introduced to Moorings Park as patients at the Chateau for short-term rehabilitation following joint replacement surgery.

At Moorings Park, we enjoy outstanding meals available in three separate dining areas with a fourth outside dining area just a month away from completion. The food and variety of menus is so good we never go out to local restaurants anymore.

Living at Moorings Park, we haven't changed our former active lifestyles in the Naples community a bit. We've just added some special features normally available only by joining a private club. We're still living in Naples with many old friends but have made many new and interesting friendships at Moorings Park.

No more of the “We can come Tuesday next week between noon and 5 o'clock” — pick up the phone to call the facilities staff, and maintenance problems are resolved promptly.

There is always something new, interesting and different at Moorings Park.

Moorings Park is committed to “green” concepts where residents and management work together on new, innovative approaches.

For our own benefit and that of our neighboring communities in Southwest Florida, Moorings Park is “Going Green.”
