The event will be held on Thursday, August 24, at 2 p.m., in The Center for Healthy Living, located within Moorings Park. Those wishing to attend need to RSVP by 5 p.m. on Monday, August 21, by calling 239-643-9111.

The guest speaker for the event, who also spoke at the first event, is Catherine Cruikshank, Director of Education for the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.

One of Cruikshank’s focuses will be identifying strategies that will allow family members and friends to best connect and communicate with the individual with dementia at each stage of the disease.

Cruikshank has a MA in Geriatric Administration with a dissertation on Elder Abuse and Neglect. Her Doctoral studies in Gerontology focused on Alzheimer’s, with an interest in behaviors and family dynamics. For more than a decade, she has committed herself to a psycho-sociological approach when working with individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Cruikshank joined the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter in August 2004 as its Program Specialist for Lee and Collier counties. She became Regional Program Director in January 2006 and promoted to Director of Education in June 2009.

The four-part, Afternoon to Remember educational lecture series on Alzheimer’s and other dementias, is sponsored by Moorings Park’s two Assisted Living and Memory Care centers, Orchid Terrace and Oakstone.

Orchid Terrace is located within Moorings Park, located on Goodlette-Frank Road, just south of Pine Ridge Road. Oakstone is located within Moorings Park at Grey Oaks, located on Airport-Pulling Road, just north of Golden Gate Parkway.

Residents at both locations receive healthcare assistance as part of their monthly fee, which includes 24-hour nursing services, memory care, all-inclusive assistance with activities of daily living, including dressing and grooming, nutritional guidance for those with special dietary needs, certified exercise specialists, and access to the services at The Center for Healthy Living – to name just a few.

Individuals currently living in the greater Naples area can receive Assisted Living and Memory Care services on a month-to-month basis at a daily rate with no entrance fees.

The luxurious, private one bedroom suites provide a personalized home-like setting using a variety of designs and décor to stimulate social activity, including the innovative use of Life Bios and personalized photo galleries.

Memory Care at Orchid Terrace and Oakstone was designed to engage residents in meaningful activity programs that stimulate the senses such as sight, smell, hearing and touch. Individual care plans also embrace the uniqueness of each resident’s individual conditions, situations and needs, while family centered programs enhance interaction and participation. There’s also a full calendar of social, spiritual and life enrichment activities.

The two additional upcoming Afternoon to Remember events are currently planned for Wednesday, October 11 at Moorings Park, and Thursday, November 2, at Moorings Park at Grey Oaks.
